Prego Wine Bar launches in Cardiff adding sophisticated European vibes to the continually evolving Cardiff drink and food scene.  Prego is the exciting new venture from Toni Venditto, the man responsible for well-known and much-loved venues such as Topo Gigio, Fontana di Trevi, V Nightclub and Toni’s Bar.

“Kelly is an old family friend who wants to support us and join in with the celebrations.” says Toni

The Welsh band have recently released their 11th album, Kind, made after finishing their world tour in 2018 and Kelly joined Toni at an exclusive VIP launch event last week.

Toni Venditto is back in town.  Toni, arguably the pioneer of Italian hospitality in Cardiff, is one of the best-known bar and restaurant owners having welcomed and entertained people in the capital for over 45 years.  Toni has decided to come out of his retirement because he wanted to create something unique in Cardiff.  Toni also felt that a sophisticated wine bar would give him the opportunity to bring a piece of his family vineyard, Sclavia, in Southern Italy back over to Cardiff.

Toni said “I felt that Cardiff needed something a bit different.  When I retired, I finally got to see things from a customer point of view and couldn’t find anywhere to really relax and enjoy drinks with some food and a genuine warm welcome with a truly customer-focussed service.  I have been in Cardiff for over 45 years and I understand the drink and food scene extremely well.  There are some great venues in Cardiff, but I honestly couldn’t find anywhere that offers first class service, excellent wine and drinks and quality customer service in a sophisticated and relaxing environment.”

“We established our family vineyard over 20 years ago in the Campania region near the Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy and are proud to produce and sell good quality Italian wine.  Prego has an extensive wine list which includes our exclusive Sclavia wine, alongside some fantastic prosecco and champagne.  We also offer the obligatory Peroni chilled beer on tap and have a selection of quality Italian bottled beer.”

When asked why he chose the prime location on the High Street, next to the Castle, Toni said “The City centre has been in desperate need of a cosmopolitan drinking and dining area and there hasn’t really been anywhere since Mill Lane which became popular over 20 years ago now.  There are a number of good venues in this historic and picturesque part of town with more opening all the time.”

Expect elegant décor and a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere to provide the perfect backdrop against which to drink, eat and enjoy yourself.

In the mornings you can enjoy KIMBO Italian coffee and torte (cakes) and pasticcini (pastries), whilst many people visit for antipasti and drinks over lunch time.  There is often live music early evening, when people like to enjoy a few glasses of wine or try one of our house cocktails. The atmosphere on Thursday and weekend evenings ramps up a little and you will find a diverse crowd enjoying contemporary European music.

Prego [pronounced prey-go] means You’re Welcome Italian. The perfect name to describe the bar’s philosophy.
